Caped crusaders join DAB's campaign trail
Batman and Robin came to Hunghom yesterday as campaigning for Sunday's election entered its final week.
The dynamic duo were enlisted by DAB chairman Tsang Yok-sing, who is fighting an uphill battle, according to the polls.
After an outdoor press conference to announce the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong's eight-point economic plan, Mr Tsang and his team canvassed for support in Whampoa Garden.
Accompanying them were two men in Batman and Robin costumes. But their attempts to make friends and influence people were not as successful as it might have been - some of the children seemed frightened.
After a brief rest, Mr Tsang, who is trailing Lau Chin-shek, James To Kun-sun and Frederick Fung Kin-kee in Kowloon West, took to the public housing estates.
Elsewhere in Kowloon West, Democratic Party chairman Martin Lee Chu-ming gave his support to party members Mr Lau, Mr To and Eric Wong Chung-ki.
They stood in the rain in an open-top van, waving their hands to pedestrians with the sign one - to symbolise the Democrats' number on the ballot paper - during the ride from Cheung Sha Wan to Mongkok.
Earlier, Mr Lee and his New Territories East allies attempted to stage a ceremonial ritual by releasing 20 doves, the party symbol. But as drizzle turned to downpour, they had to cut short their speeches.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Party's Allen Lee Peng-fei led a float parade and the DAB's Hong Kong Island team canvassed yachts in Aberdeen.
In New Territories West, Democrat Mr Lau showed up to canvass for his party's rival in the constituency, Lee Cheuk-yan of the Confederation of Trade Unions.
'As the chairman of the CTU, it is natural for me to support our secretary-general, Mr Lee,' he said.
Lam Wai-keung of the New Territories Alliance spent three hours walking from village to village, while Lawrence Yum Sin-ling of the 123 Democratic Alliance staged a vehicle parade.
